The Silent Hound Proudly Supports Animal Rescue

My inspiration for my hand crafted doG items began within the year of adopting my first retired racing Greyhound, Racing Name - 'True Temper'. Temper became part of my life in October of 2008 at the age of 6-1/2. Not long after in January of 2010, I adopted my second retired racer named, 'Eva Mendes', now Zoie, at age of 2-1/2.

So, this is where the entire story unfolds. Knowing I wanted lovely specialty items to keep the Grey's warm, cozy and oh so stylish, my quest for this craft evolved. Today, I offer my craft to you.

UPDATE: Since adopting the Grey's, I've added another addition to the pack. December 2011, I gave a German Shepherd, Cobalt, now named Sultan, a fur-ever home. He thought this was perfect and I thought it was time we had a 'Sultry' and rugged man around the house. Life has been so blessed ever since.

The name 'The Silent Hound' and how it came to be...

As we all know, rescue doG's, more often than not, come into our lives with a past history of untold stories and because of that, I often wonder what their past life was like, where have they lived, did they ever feel love, a warm fluffy bed, a full tummy. Were they abused or disrespected at the hand of a human. Were they ever injured or in any pain. History of a past life; stories gone silent.

Then there is the Greyhound breed itself, for the most part, they are a silent breed, so incredibly quiet, rarely, if ever, do you hear one barking or making a fuss.

A little about me: By day I work in an office as an accounting controller, for a few hours in the evenings, Mon-Thurs, I sew collars and the like. My hobbies are working on my home, gardening in the yard and hikes with my much loved doGs. I love motorcycle day trip destinations to find a tucked away eatery far from home. I enjoy country dancing, working out, grilling outdoors and enjoying my friends and family.

I'd like to thank you so much for browsing 'The Silent Hound Designs' and I hope you find that perfect something for your hound(s) or for yourself! Enjoy your visit and please, don't forget to sign our guest book!

The Silent Hound is where the home/studio is exceptionally clean, a smoke free environment and a sewing room off limits to hounds, well...occasionally a grey or two may sneak in for a quick kiss and a hug!! Shhhhhh...

5 very special people from across the US tag teamed his transport to Kansas City, I can't thank them enough!

My little retired athlete, Zoie took a transport from Daytona Beach, FL all the way to the Midwest!

Go ahead, let one, two or three doG's race right into your heart, share your home with

rescue doG, the return is more than amazing!

A PERSONAL NOTE: As the years have gone by I realize what a short time we are given with our best friends, our doG's - some left much too young and others lived to a ripe old age.

I have many happy memories of these old friends and have learned valuable lessons from each and every one of them.

Do yourself a favor and take lots of pictures of your doG's while you can. You won't ever regret it.

Love em' much and pet em' long.

Temper - My 1st Greyhound

02/23/2002 - 03/25/2013

One day an old man was walking down the beach just before dawn.  In the distance he saw a young man picking up stranded starfish and throwing them back into the sea.  As the old man approached the young man, he asked, "Why do you spend so much energy doing what seems to be a waste of time?"  The young man explained that the stranded starfish would die if left in the morning sun.  The old man exclaimed, "But there must be thousands of starfish.  How can your efforts make any difference?"  The young man looked down at the starfish in his hand and as he threw it to safety in the sea, he said, "It makes a difference to this one!"

At times in our lives, we are all the old man, the young man, or the starfish.  Sometimes, as the old man, we don't see the purpose to actions.  Sometimes, as the young man, we persevere and make a difference.  And sometimes, we are the starfish who just needs a little help.
